According to Wikipedia, there are 262,300 miles of roads in the UK, which would get you to the moon and then three times around the moon itself!
The earliest evidence of engineered roads in the UK dates back to the 1st century BC in Shrewsbury where there is evidence of a stone cambered road, 6ft high and 20ft wide.
There is also a timber road preserved in peat in Norfolk, with tree rings suggesting a date of 75 BC, most probably built by Queen Boudica of the Iceni tribe.
