Which day of the Week do Most House Sales take Place?

Which day of the week sees the most house sales agreed? The answer may surprise you! Analysis of three years of UK property sales reveals Wednesday is the busiest day, with over 625,000 deals agreed. Discover the fascinating weekly rhythm of the housing market and why timing plays a part in moving home.

Wednesday’s Child Is Full of Sales
Monday’s child is fair of face.
Tuesday’s child is full of grace.
But when it comes to Britain’s property market, Wednesday is the day the deals are done.
Analysis of three years of UK house sales data reveals a striking weekly rhythm. Agreed sales do not fall evenly across the seven days. Instead, they build rapidly through Tuesday, peak on Wednesday, and remain exceptionally strong through Thursday and Friday.
Wednesday sits firmly at the top, with 625,696 sales agreed, compared with 195,905 on Monday. In other words, more than three times as many sales are agreed on a Wednesday as on a Monday. Thursday follows closely with 595,719, while Friday records 576,654. Together, those three midweek days account for 56.4% of every sale agreed during the period studied.
The week then begins to slow. Saturday remains surprisingly active, with 499,409 agreed sales, before activity drops sharply on Sunday.
There is a perfectly sensible explanation. Monday is often spent dealing with weekend enquiries, chasing viewing feedback and restarting negotiations that paused on Friday. By Tuesday, conversations are moving. By Wednesday, buyers and sellers have had time to think, negotiate and make decisions.
So perhaps the old rhyme needs a property market rewrite:
Monday’s buyer starts to browse,
Tuesday’s offer tests the house,
Wednesday’s deal is firmly made,
Thursday’s vendor is persuaded,
Friday’s agent earns their fee,
Saturday keeps up the activity,
And Sunday waits for Monday’s call.
The lesson is simple. The property market might operate seven days a week, but Wednesday is when Britain is most likely to shake hands on a home.
